Top 10 things NOT to say to a pregnant woman…

There are plenty of things we should be saying to a pregnant woman, whether it’s her first pregnancy or her twenty-first. But there are even more we should not - these are my top ten. And yes, disappointingly, these were all said to me when I was carrying E.

  • Sleep now, whilst you can.

  • Say goodbye to your social life.

  • Nobody will care about you once the baby is here.

  • Make sure you’re only eating fruit and vegetables.

  • You shouldn’t be eating that.

  • When are you having another one?

  • Woah, are you having twins?!

  • You are going to breastfeed, aren’t you?

  • Was it planned?

  • You obviously know what you’re having, so just tell us…

I could go on. And it’s saddening to be able to write this list, but people honestly don’t think and let their mouths run away with them. Some of these are stupid remarks. Some are down right nasty. They were all said to me and all lived rent free in my head throughout my pregnancy and beyond.

Pregnancy is a gift and a blessing, and we should only be saying uplifting, kind, supportive things to those carrying new life. So please, just be kind.
